feng shui your 2010: here's a head start!

For many people, the holidays are not only much-needed time off, a million parties and gifts. Stress, worry, anxiety and frantic rushing can make the season less than merry. Welcome to ten ways to get a jump start on your New Year feng shui now. Ready, set, go!

1. make a worry list. yes, i’m telling you to not be positive, but rather to write out a list of every single thing you worry about. group them in categories, for instance: money, career, health, emotions, family… then, for each group, find 3 things you can do now on each list to start taking control. you may feel like you aren’t making a dent, but you will be too busy to worry!

2. take the trash out: meaning, not just your trash, which you should sort well and empty more often than you have been, but also, every piece of trash in your home that you are “holding onto just in case.”

3. give gift certificates that are cool in lieu of expensive gifts (= less time rushing, more time replenishing). great ones for charities like Kiva.org may be a way to give family and friends a broader perspective this year.

4. the two elements that catalyze change are water and fire. think about it—- is your place too hot (reds and oranges, heat on for the winter, lots of candles & lights & electronics? If so, go get yourself a great tabletop fountain and start the water flowing (just please avoid the bedroom and bathroom with this one).  too much water happening? lots of stark white, blue, collections of items, collages? add some fire with a great group of candles, a chevron patterned throw blanket, a fiery photo or artwork.

5. do you sleep well? if not, this is the time to start! get a high thread count Egyptian cotton sheet set at Overstock.com if you can’t afford the stores, and if you are ready to be luxe and spend, hit up the luxury bedding boutiques like Olatz (I die! amazing!) for new sheets and a new duvet in skin tones & earth tones with small splashes of fire (fire= pink sheets, silk pillows, a duvet flecked with reds…)

6. under your bed is not a storage area. whatever is there needs to go someplace else.

7. practice subtraction. Too many things on the walls, on counter tops, etc = too much to look at and not enough free space to experience. take a few things away. rotate what you have.

8. WASH those WINDOWS. (i’m sadly going to have to do this today! its the best way to gain perspective)

9. Give a little bit more than you are used to of your time.  What you give is what you get, so start to donate a bit of time to a local charity you love.

10. Go through your phone, facebook, even twitter and start hitting delete (ex boyfriends/girlfriends that are unhealthy, people who you upset you)….But please be judicious. Where friends are concerned, the holidays could be the best time to reconnect and start the New Year in a higher state of being.

HAVE FUN!!!! DRIVE SAFE!!! and email me questions! xxxx Dana
