Now, its not the aesthetic in particular that falls flat here, it is an absence of positive CHI. Chi= what can be seen, felt, heard or touched, experienced by the senses…Why and how can I say this about a photo? There is an abundance of shadow and very little clear light, a lot of vintage furnishings and art can be stifling, the colors here create no energy, the “eclectic” is unplanned (the raucous picture-hanging) and the overall effect= BLAH.
Imagine those wall fixtures were two gleaming crystal chandeliers refracting colorful light through the room, the pictures were straighter and more deliberate, an oval glass topped metal coffee table creates gravity with a big, luscious houseplant atop it, perhaps the walls were washed in steel blue-grey milk paint… Yeah….you get what I’m saying…CHI.
